Much like this figure in the abbey, I feel a mystery, almost an unexplainable shadow, in the French Cistercian abbeys. There is an unexplainable and invisible feeling surrounding the architecture so grand and so soaring as if to ascend to the heavens. But just as much as the visual shadow, there is an unexplainable auditory sensation ascending from the brain to the heart to the heavens when a choir sings in the abbey. The same feeling pervades my soul with just two voices, much as I experienced in a Cistercian abbey in Provence a few years ago. The mystery has stayed with me.
